Tea production increases
The country’s tea production has increased to 223.5 million kilos from January to August this year.
This is an 8.5 million kilo increase in comparison to last year’s 214 million kilos. This 4% increase is mainly due to the high production in the lower grown tea.
62% of the Sri Lanka’s tea is produced by the low grown tea. However the improvement in Sri Lanka’s high grown tea is due to the good weather that continued throughout the recent months. According to a preliminary report released by the Tea Board, Sri Lanka has produced 26.6 million kilos of tea in August.
This is a 3% increase compared to last year’s statistics. There has been a four million increase of tea production between the two months, comparing the tea production statistics of August to July 2013.
