Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers brew all-time record prices

Six lines of tea sold through Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd., at this week’s tea auctions established all-time record prices with one line of tea equalling an all-time record price.
The marks which established all-time record prices were three lines of Craighead, on line of Imboolpitiya, one line of Dombagastalawa, one line of Mount Vernon; whilst a line of tea from Strathdon equalled an all-time record price.
Craighead in the record books for 10th consecutive week
Craighead, reputed for producing the best quality Medium Grown Orthodox Tea has won the confidence of the trade for maintaining consistency at the highest levels. This is manifested by the all-time record prices established by them continuously for 10 weeks, improving the records established by them and establishing a new record as well.
At this week’s Tea Auctions three lines of Craighead Tea established all-time record prices.
A line of BOPFS established an all-time record price of Rs. 720 per kilogram which surpassed the previous all-time record of Rs. 650 per kilogram established by them. This line of tea was purchased by Imperial Teas Ltd.
Meanwhile, a line of FBOP grade from Craighead established an all-time record price of Rs. 1150 per kilogram which surpassed the previous all-time record of Rs. 1050 per kilogram established by Rilagala Mark. This line of tea was purchased by J-Cey Tea Ltd.
The third all-time record price of Rs. 920 per kilogram was established jointly with Imboolpitiya Mark for a line of OP1 grade which surpassed the previous all-time record price of Rs. 900 per kilogram.
The Craighead tea line was purchased by Euro Scan Exports Ltd., and the line of Imboolpitiya Tea was purchased by Akbar Brothers.
Imboolpitiya is also a mark which is reputed for producing quality orthodox tea in the Western Medium Elevation Category and along with Craighead is owned and managed by Kahawatte Plantations PLC, a company which maintain highest quality standards.
Dombagastalawa Mark which is also owned and managed by Kahawatte Plantaions PLC, producing quality orthodox tea in the Western Medium Category, established an all-time record price of Rs. 740 per kilogram for a line of BOP grade in the Western Medium Category of the ex-estate catalogue.
This surpassed the previous all-time record price of Rs. 710 per kilogram.
This line of tea was purchased by Imperial Teas Ltd.
The sale of all five record breaking lines of tea was conducted by Forbes and Walker Tea Brokers Ltd. who are the sole brokers for Craighead, Imboolpitiya and Dombagastalawa Marks.
Mount Vernon establishes
all-time record
At this week’s auctions, a PF1 grade from Mount Vernon Mark established an all-time record price of Rs. 530 per kilogram, surpassing the previous all-time record price of Rs. 520 per kilogram which was established by them.
Consistency in the quality of Mount Vernon Teas’ CTC tea has been recognised by the trade and rewarded with all-time record prices.
This line of tea was purchased by Unilever Lipton Ceylon Ltd.
The Mount Vernon factory, which is situated in the famous Dimbula Valley at an elevation of 1188 metres, produces over 1 million kilograms of CTC tea per annum.
The factory is certified ISO 22000:2005 for Food Hygiene and Management Systems. MountVernon is owned and managed by Kotagala Plantaions PLC. Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd. conducted this record breaking sale.
Strathdon equals record price
One of the consistent marks producing coloury and strong CTC tea in the Medium Grown Elevation Category, Strathdon equalled the all-time record price Rs. 530 per kilogram for a PF1 grade at this week’s tea auctions.
The all-time record price of Rs. 530 per kilogram was jointly established by Strathdon and Carolina Marks. This line of PF 1 was bought by Unilever Lipton Ceylon Ltd.
Strathdon is owned and managed by Watawala Plantations PLC and the sale was conducted by Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd.
