09th January, 2018
Sri Lanka Cricket’s National Selection Panel has appointed Angelo Mathews as the White-Ball Captain of the National team on a long term basis.
Mathews, who earlier led the team in all formats, agreed to once again lead the team in the white-ball format, following a request made by the SLC President Mr. Thilanga Sumathipala.
“I invited Angelo to reconsider and accept the Captaincy once again, further to the lengthy discussions I had with the Head Coach, Selectors and the Management of the SLC” said Mr. Sumathipala.
The upcoming Tri-Nation ODI tournament in Bangladesh will be Mathews first assignment as the Captain.
In the meantime, Dinesh Chandimal will continue to be the Captain of the Test Team.
