Sri Lankan under 19s starts the ICC U19 World Cup 2018 Campaign on a victorious note

Sri Lankan under-19 team won the first game they played in the ongoing ICC under 19 World Cup in New Zealand today, beating Ireland by 7 wickets, with Left Handed Batsman Dhananjaya Lakshan scoring an unbeaten 101.
Batting first in the over reduced match after winning the toss, Ireland managed to score 207 runs for the loss of 8 wickets from 48 overs, with J. Grassi top scoring for the Irishmen with a knock of 75 runs.
Sri Lankan Captain Kamindu Mendis grabbed 3 Ireland wickets by conceding only 35 runs in his 10 overs, while L. N. Malinga and Jehan Daniel captured a wicket apiece.
Chasing 208 to win, Sri Lankan team managed to reach the target within 37.3 overs with Dhananjaya Lakshan scoring an unbeaten 101, while Skipper Kamindu Mendis scored an unbeaten 74 runs. The duo put on a stand of 157 run stand, joining together when the Lankan score board was reading as 51 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.
Dhananjaya Lakshan was awarded the “Player of the Match’ for his unbeaten ton.
With this win the Lankans are topping the Group ‘D’ which features teams such as Afghanistan, Pakistan and Ireland. The game was played at Whangarei.
