Air Force trounce Panadura SC by an innings and 97 runs; Rest drawn

MAJOR LEAGUE TOURNEY TIER B:

Air Force beat Panadura SC by an innings and 97 runs in the only result oriented match in the Tier B of the Major League Tournament last week. The rest of the matches between Negombo CC-Navy, Kalutara TC-Galle CC and Kurunegela YCC-Police were drawn.

Playing host to Air Force, Panadura SC, batting first, caved in for 176 with W.S. Rangika claiming 5 wickets for 52 and M. Priyanath 3 for 44. Air Force posted 309 and skittled out Panadura SC for 36 in the second essay with no batsman reaching double figures. A highlight of the match was W.S. Rangika’s figures of 4 for 0 for a match bag of 9 for 52 while M. Priyanath took 5 for 36. Run getters for Air Force were S.A.D.U. Mihiran 96, H. James 59 and R.P. Thatti 48.

The Negombo CC versus Navy encounter was a high scoring draw at Welisara. Navy piled up 342 with K. Edusuriya scoring 121. B. Hasaranga made 80 and S. Gunasekera 66. J.V. Chathuranga took 4 for 145 and W.R.C. Fernando 3 for 68.

Negombo CC responded with 326 on half centuries by A.M.D.B.M.P. Jayamanne 77, A.A. Inham 66 and L. Croospulle 52. D.S. Auwardt picked 3 for 91 and I. Abeysekera 4 for 140. Navy were 157 for 6 in the second innings when stumps were drawn.

Galle CC were all out for 274 with C.J. Wijesinghe stroking 106 and W.L.P. Fernando 55. Kalutara TC were 191 for 4 wickets in the second innings with K.K.M.R. Perera scoring 86.

Police made 270 against Kurunegela YCC in their drawn match at the Welagedera Stadium. K.A.D. Fernando top scored with 61. R.M.K. Dilshan made 52.

Kurunegela YCC was dismissed for 156 with Police declaring the second innings on 271 for 6 on scores of 99 by A.H.L. De Silva and an unbeaten 97 by K.A.D. Fernando. Chasing a victory target of 386, Kurunegela YCC were 230 for 6 at stumps. D. Perera made 84 and D. Dharmasiri 64 in the wake of his first innings knock of 67.
