Sri Lanka Cricket is focusing on inculcating a culture of a sound nutrition and fitness regime across the first class and emerging cricket players in Sri Lanka, in order to produce cricketers, who can consistently perform at the highest level of the game.
Rob Chave, SLC’s Manager of Physical Performance who is operating from the High Performance Center in Kettarama says in order to realize the objective, SLC is currently working towards encouraging the Premier and Emerging Cricket Clubs in the country to adopt a squad and individual player focused fitness and nutrition regimes.
“This kind of a system will help to build a player with the right endurance, strength and body composition, which in-turn will contribute to a player improving their on-field performance markers of speed and agility,’’ said Chave.
As a part of the process, Sri Lanka Cricket recently conducted a workshop to educate the Coaches of the Premier and Emerging Clubs to educate them on how to go about the task. 30 coaches, representing 14 Premier and 09 Emerging Clubs took part in the programme.
During the workshop, Rob Chave, who has worked with tennis players in the South of Spain and also Sussex CCC’s 1st team squad and academy squads before moving to Sri Lanka explained the path that clubs should take to produce more robust, athletic and consistent cricketers, and also explained on how to provide a physical fitness pathway to both individual player and team as a whole.
He elaborated on the nutrition requirement for athletes and how the Sri Lankan diet can be manipulated to suit the needs of a player, by balancing the composition and portioning of the required nutrients; carbohydrate, protein and vegetables.
The workshop was conducted under the auspices of the SLC’s Coach Education unit, headed by Heshan De Mel, Chamila Gamage and Janaka Deegodagamage and was supported by Mr. Simon Willis, the Head of SLC’s High Performance Centre.

මේ කර්තව්‍ය සාර්ථක කරගැනීමට රටපුරා විසිර සිටින ප්‍රිමියර් හා නැගී එන ක්‍රිකට් සමාජ හා ක්‍රීඩකයන් දැනුවත් කිරීමට කටයුතු යොදන බව බෙත්තාරාම ක්‍රීඩාංගණයේ උසස් තාක්ෂණ මධ්‍යස්ථානයේ ශාරීරික දක්ෂතා අංශයේ කළමනාකරු රොබ් චෙව් මහතා ප්‍රකාශ කරයි.
ආබාධවලින් තොරව ක්‍රීඩකයෙකු බිහිකිරීම සඳහා ක්‍රමවත් යෝග්‍යතාව හා පෝෂණ සංස්කෘතියකට ඔවුන් යොමු කරන බව ද රොබ් චෙව් මහතා පවසයි.
ක්‍රීඩාපිටිය තුළ ක්‍රීඩකයන් ක්‍රියාශීලිව දස්කම් දැක්වීමට ඔවුනට ශක්තිය ලබාදීමෙන් හා ශක්තිය දරාගැනීමේ හැකියාව ප්‍රගුණ කිරීමෙන් ඔවුනගේ වේගයත්, දක්ෂතාවයත් වැඩිවනු ඇතැයි ද රොබ් චෙව් මහතා පැවසීය.
මේ අරමුණ සාර්ථක කරගැනීමේ පියවරක් ලෙස ප්‍රිමියර් හා නැගී එන ක්‍රිකට් සමාජයන්හි පුහුණුකරුවන් දැනුවත් කිරීමේ වැඩමුළුවක් නොබෝදා බෙත්තාරාම ක්‍රීඩාංගණයේ දී ශ්‍රී ලංකා ක්‍රිකට් ආයතනය සංවිධානය කළේය. මේ අවස්ථාවට ප්‍රිමියර් සමාජ 14කත් නැගී එන ක්‍රීඩා සමාජ 09කත් පුහුණුකරුවන් තිහක් එක්ව සිටියහ.
ක්‍රිකට් ක්‍රීඩකයන් කණ්ඩායමක් ලෙසත් පෞද්ගලිකවත් ශාරීරික යෝග්‍යතාවයෙන් පිරිපුන් ක්‍රීඩකයන් ලෙස ක්‍රියාශීලීව කටයුතු කළ යුතු ආකාරය පිළිබඳව වැඩමුළුව මෙහෙය වූ රොබ් චෙව් මහතා දීර්ඝ ලෙස පුහුණුකරුවන් දැනුවත් කළේය.
සමබර දේශීය ආහාර වේලක් මගින් කාබෝහයිඩ්‍රේට්, ප්‍රෝටීන් හා පෝෂණය ලබා ක්‍රියාශීලි ක්‍රීඩකයන් බිහිකරගැනීමට ඇති හැකියාව පිළිබඳව ද මෙහි දී රොබ් චෙච් මහතා පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.
ශ්‍රී ලංකා ක්‍රිකට් ආයතනයේ පුහුණු අධ්‍යයන ඒකකය මෙහෙයවූ මේ වැඩමුළුවට එම ඒකකයේ ප්‍රධානී හෙෂාන් ද මෙල්, චමිල ගමගේ හා චානක දීගොඩගමගේ හා උසස් තාක්ෂණ මධ්‍යස්ථානයේ ප්‍රධානි සයිමන් විලිස් යන මහත්වරු ද සහභාගි වූහ.
