Sri Lanka Ports Authority rout Ragama CC; SSC trounce NCC, Chilaw Marians down Colts
MAJOR TOURNEY TIER A SUPER 8 SECOND ROUND:
Sri Lanka Ports Authority routed the more fancied Ragama CC by an innings and 42 runs at FTZ grounds, Katunayake in the Super 8 second round of the Major League Tier A Tournament last week. Meanwhile, SSC enjoyed a 194- run win over NCC while Chilaw Marians CC beat Colts by 4 wickets and BRC defeated Saracens by 83 runs.
At Katunayake, put into bat, Ragama was all out for 269 on a top score of 52 by Lahiru Thirimanne. Ports Authority responded with a massive 485 for 9 declared spearheaded by an unbeaten 139 by middle order batsman W.W.A.G. Maneeshan off 260 balls and studded with 14 boundaries. Following on, Ragama was bundled out for 174 in the second essay. Doing the damage with the ball were N.C. Komasaru who claimed 5 for 66 and 4 for 45 for a match bag of 9 wickets and , M.A. Liyanapathiranage 5 for 85 and 3 for 74 for a match haul of 8 wickets respectively.
SSC drubbed NCC by 194 runs at CCC grounds. Put into bat, SSC made 347 on a top score of 70 by Milinda Siriwardena. Dasun Shanaka made 63 and K.I.C. Akalanka 56. NCC replied with 298 with A.K. Perera stroking 107 off 168 balls inclusive of 12 boundaries. SSC totalled 300 in the second essay with M. Bahanuka striking 110 off 157 balls containing 12 boundaries and a six. NCC, needing 350 to win, flopped for 155 with Sachithra Senanayake doing the damage claiming 6 for 65 and Jeffreay Vandersay 3 for 30.
Chilaw Marians bundled out Colts for 169 but fared no better being dismissed for 162 at the SSC grounds. Colts made 225 in the second essay setting Chilaw Marians 233 to win which they did for the loss of 6 wickets. The architect of the victory was Shehan Jayasuriya who stroked 95 off 108 balls containing 10 boundaries and a six. He was well supported by K.V.A. Adikari who made 57 off 74 inclusive of 6 boundaries.
BRC overcame the first innings hiccup of being dismissed for 168 to beat Saracens SC by 83 runs at Colts grounds. Saracens was all out for 173. BRC came up with a better batting performance in the second innings to total 294 with P.D. Das top scoring with 72.
Set 289 to win, No.3 batsman M. Jaleel struck an unbeaten 90, but found little support from the rest of the top order as Saracens was all out for 206.
T.N. Sampath had a match bag of 8 wickets for 88.
