Sampanthan warns MR of Eelam blooming from lotus bud
Tamil National Alliance (TNA) leader R Sampanthan on Monday warned former President Mahinda Rajapaksa that the lotus bud of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will bloom into Eelam if he continues to spread false propaganda.
Speaking in Parliament during the debate on the political situation in the country, Sampanthan said that there was no dispute that the SLPP led by Rajapaksa won the just concluded Local Government elections.
However he said the fact was that the SLPP won less votes than the others combined and this showed that more people still voted against him, like they did at the last Presidential elections.
Sampanthan also said that he was alarmed at statements made by Rajapaksa during his campaigning for the Local Government elections.
He said that Rajapaksa had warned that an Eelam state could bloom if the Government won the Local Government elections.
The TNA leader said that his party never spoke of Eelam during the campaigning and instead pushed for a political solution within an undivided Sri Lanka.
Sampanthan warned that if Rajapaksa continues to make false statements the lotus bud will bloom into Eelam. The lotus bud is the symbol of the SLPP. (Colombo Gazette)
