Leadership training for principal suspended following death

The Education Ministry says the leadership training programme conducted for principals has been suspended following the death of a principal.

According to the Education Ministry, an investigation will be conducted into the death.

The principal of the Ambalantota Suchi National School Rohini Kumari Attapattu (53) had died while participating in the training programme conducted for principals on Saturday.

She had met with the accident while attempting to climb a rope as part of the leadership programme. Kumari Attapattu fell and sustained injuries.

The programme was conducted at the Wayamba Teacher Training Centre in Wariyapola, Kurunegala.

Meanwhile, the Outward-Bound Trust of Sri Lanka (OBTSL) said that it had nothing to do with the fatality which occurred during the leadership adventure training program conducted at the Wariyapola Wayamaba Traning Center.

OBTSL says it adheres strictly to the safety protocols promulgated by Outward Bound International (OBI), which is evaluated every two years by OBI, to which they are affiliated and also adheres to the Standards for Safety for Adventure Activities promulgated by the Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI) a statutory organization which sets standards for activities of Sri Lankan organizations.
