Sri Lanka-Kenya Joint Commission established
A Joint Commission has been established between Sri Lanka and Kenya. Trade ties between Sri Lanka and Kenya have achieved a growth of more than 40 percent during the past few years. Addressing a news conference, Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris said that Sri Lanka achieved many benefits by the President’s visit to Kenya.
The External Affairs Minister said that Kenya belongs to the KOMESA Organization within the African Continent. It comprises 20 African countries. There is a population of 400 million in these countries. Countries speedily achieving economic growth are located in the African Continent. The Minister pointed out that the value of trade between Sri Lanka and Kenya during the past few years had increased by 40 percent. A Sri Lankan-Kenya Joint Commission has been established to carry forward this programme.
A trade promotion agreement was inked between Sri Lanka and Kenya seeking the direct contribution of the private sector. The Minister said that about 20 leading local businessmen joined the President in this visit. He added that their prime objective was to create a direct coordination among Trade Business Councils.
