Mitsubishi gets an order to supply Sri Lanka’s first HTMS
Sri Lanka has given a contract to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Limited to install a full-scale highway traffic management system (HTMS) in the Island’s Southern Expressway.
The system on order is due to be deployed by end of 2014 between Colombo and Galle section of the road, which runs across a 95 km stretch.
Construction work will be performed under a grant-in-aid provided by the Japanese Government.
Mitsubishi will handle all aspects from engineering, procurement and installation, to adjustment and training.
It will also provide 24 variable message signs (VMS), vehicle detection cameras, weather sensors and other roadside equipment, as well as the central computer systems for data processing and operating status monitoring.
Sri Lanka’s Southern highway is the first such facility in the country and during this year another expressway was added to the system, which links Colombo with its main airport in Katunayake.
