Tourist arrivals up by 32.6 percent
Tourist arrivals jumped by 32.6 percent in January this year compared to the same period last year. The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority has released this data.
The month recorded 146,575 tourist arrivals in comparison to the figure of 110,543 in January last year.
Arrivals from North America rose by 22.4 while tourist arrivals from the US increased 31.5 percent in January. There was a 12.7 percent increase of arrivals from Canada.
Tourist arrivals from Western Europe reached 46,301 during the first month of the year rising 17.9 percent.
From Eastern Europe the increase was 63.6 percent. Russia topped by 91.6 percent.
Middle East tourist arrivals rose in January by 9.7 percent and from South Asia the increase was 14.6 percent.
