SLC Executive Committee Decisions – March 2014
The SLC Executive Committee met yesterday (20th March 2014) and the following decisions were taken.
Under 23 (YOUTH) – 2014/15 season
From the season 2014/15 Under 23 tournaments will be renamed to SLC YOUTH tournament.
Composition of a Youth team will be 2 Players from U19, 2 under 21 players, and the rest will be players below the age of 23 years in the playing XI. This will be made mandatory.
Special Grant to Pre Test Players through the Cricketers’ Benefit Fund
The ExCo approved to grant a special monetary assistance to the cricketers of the pre test era who are now aged and who may be in need of assistance for their medical and other expenses. The last honorarium was paid in August 2007. A committee was appointed to review the recipients (Past Ceylon/Sri Lanka Cricketers). These Cricketers have done their country proud without any remuneration from the game of cricket.
‘A’ Team Tours
The ExCo approved the following tours for the Sri Lanka ‘A’ Team
2014/15 for Sri Lanka “A” team up to April 2015.
1. “A” Team’s tour of England – 14th July to 15th August 2014.
2. “A” Teams tour of Ireland – 21st July to 29th July 2014.
3. West Indies “A” Team tour in October 2014.
4. New Zealand tour in April 2015.
U 19 Schools Team to Malaysia / SLC to Assist
The U19 Schools’ Team will be on tour to Malaysia. SLC’s ExCo on request of the School’s representative has agreed to grant Rs. 500,000/- in order for the School’s Cricket Association to help the players who need financial assistance in order to take part in the tour. A materiel bag too was approved for same.
Kusal Mendis to Receive a Scholarship to UK by the UK Association
SLC’s UK Association have provided a scholarship to sponsor an up and coming cricketer to play cricket in England for the English Season. Kusal Mendis , Sri Lanka’s Under 19 Captain has been selected and approved by the ExCo for this purpose.
17th Asian Games – Incheon, Korea. – Men & Women’s T20 format
ExCo approved to send Two teams (Men and Women) for the above games. There will 15 other Asian teams that will take part in this tournament.
Recognizing Schools that have performed during the season and winning the Championships at different Age Group Categories
The ExCo approved the following grants with the view that SLC recognize Schools that win Championships during a cricket season. Considering the amount of work the School Coaches and authorities put into a cricket season and grooming the young talent. Also due consideration will be given to certain schools that win Championships with less facilities and grounds
It is further stated that this scheme continues to be in place in the coming years and provided annually to schools who have accomplished this deed.

Schools Under 19 Division 1 Category – Winners of the Schools Limited Over Championship Rs.500,000.00 and Runner-up Rs.250,000.00
Schools Under 19 Division 2 Category – Winners of the Schools Championship Rs. 750,000.00 and Runner-up Rs.350,000.00
Schools Under 19 Division 3 Category – Winners of the Schools Championship Rs. 500,000.00 and Runner-up Rs.300,000.00
Schools Under 17 Division 1 Category – Winners of the Schools Championship Rs. 500,000.00 and Runner-up Rs.350,000.00
Schools Under 17 Division 2 Category – Winners of the Schools Championship Rs. 300,000.00 and Runner-up Rs.200,000.00
Schools Under 17 Division 3 Category – Winners of the Schools Championship Rs. 200,000.00 and Runner-up Rs.100,000.00
Schools Under 15 Division 1 Category – Winners of the Schools Championship Rs. 500,000.00 and Runner-up Rs.350,000.00
Schools Under 15 Division 2 Category – Winners of the Schools Championship Rs. 300,000.00 and Runner-up Rs.200,000.00
Schools Under 15 Division 3 Category – Winners of the Schools Championship Rs. 200,000.00 and Runner-up Rs.100,000.00
Training and competition opportunities for 4 players and a coach from Cricket Australia to participate in the U-23 tournament to be conducted in June/July 2014.
SLC approved a proposal for an exchange programme of four U-23 players and a coach between Cricket Australia and Sri Lanka. A request from Cricket Australia is for four of their players to play for clubs in Sri Lanka. As per their proposal SLC to send 4 players and a coach to Australia next year on this programme.
Appointment of Suspect Action Review Committee
SLC ExCo decided to re-appoint a Suspect Action Review Committee.
Following names were nominated by the Cricket Committee members.

2. Mr. Muththaiya. Muralitharan
3. Mr. Priya Paranavithana
4. Mr. Chaminda Vaas
5. Mr. Champaka Ramanayake
Training of School Cricket Coaches and MICs
The program had been designed on adult training techniques where participants are made to learn through team activities and mind teasers. It is envisaged that School Cricket Coaches and MICs could effectively use psychology and evolving teaching methods in coaching in the end and this will augur well for school cricket development as a whole. SLC ExCo approved the above training programme. 117 School Cricket Coaches from Division 1,2 & 3 will undergo this training.
