CCD Continues Probe On BBS
The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) is continuing its investigations into the complaint lodged against the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) and has recorded a statement in this regard.
The CCD is looking into concerns raised in the complaint that disrepute and harm was brought to Islam and the Holy Quran by the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena the Venerable Galaboda Aththe Gnanasara thero. “An investigation into the incident is underway and we are currently recording the statements related to the matter,” Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said.
He said that the CCD has not yet determined if legal action will be taken against the monk as that will be decided only if there is evidence to back the complaint.
When inquired, the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka said it cannot entertain any complaints over the said incident as it is a police matter
“We cannot accept any complaint against Bodu Bala Sena. We do not have the jurisdiction. Such complaints need to be lodged with the police,” Human Rights Commissioner Dr Prathiba Mahanamahewa said.
He added that, if the police, as a state institution, fail to perform its duty and investigate the incident, then a complaint can be lodged against the police. (WK)
