Abdullah still ahead in new partial results for Afghanistan’s presidential vote
New partial results in Afghanistan’s presidential election released show that candidate Abdullah Abdullah is still the front-runner.
Abdullah currently has 44.4 percent of the votes while his nearest rival Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai has 33.2 percent of the votes so far, according to the Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan. They represent about half of the estimated 7 million ballots cast in the April 5 poll, though varying levels of votes have been counted in the country’s 34 provinces.
