Shows suspended as Dehiwala elephants go to the doctor
Director General of the Department of National Zoological Gardens Anura De Silva says that treatment will be provided starting Friday to the elephants at the Dehiwala National Zoo, identified to be diagnosed with Tuberculosis.
He added that measures will be taken to obtain the required medication from the Supplies Unit of the Ministry of Health.
Director General Anura De Silva went on to say that five elephants have been identified to be diagnosed with Tuberculosis and Zoo officials have taken the required steps to separate these elephants from the rest of the herd.
The elephants shows at the Dehiwala Zoo has thus been suspended.
Meanwhile, the veterinarians at the Dehiwala Zoo charge that a group of employees at the Zoo are working against them over the decision made by Zoo officials to separate the elephants and resort to safety measures.
