SL Government says ‘No’ to gay marriages: Hindu
The Sri Lankan government on Thursday said there was no move to legalise gay marriages in the country, the Hindu reported.
Speaking to The Hindu Presidential spokesperson Mohan Samaranayake said the participating editors were discussing the reported increase in unregistered marriages – particularly in rural Sri Lanka – when one of them brought up the issue of legalising gay marriages. “In response to that, the Minister said there was no move to legalise it now,” he said.
According to the official, the comment was made by Sri Lanka’s Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa at a meeting that President Mahinda Rajapaksa held with editors of local media.
