Rochdale MP wants UK government help over Khuram Shaikh trial

UK Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk wants the UK government to apply pressure on the Sri Lankan government not to interfere in the trial of Khuram Shaikh, an ITV report said.
Rochdale aid worker Khuram Shaikh was killed while on holiday in Sri Lanka in December 2011. Labour MP Simon Danczuk was quoted in the report as suspecting political interference which he fears could halt the trial.
With reports that the the presiding judge has been put forward for promotion to the Appeal courts, if accepted, a new judge could be appointed and the defence could call for a complete retrial.
UK Rochdale MP Simon wants pressure on the Sri Lankan authorities to make sure the trial continues, the ITV report said.
