India under Modi will be far more supportive of SL’s position – Dr Subramaniam Swamy

Former Indian Union Minister and Chairman of the Bharatiya Janatha Party’s Strategic Action Committee, Dr. Subramaniam Swamy says India under Narendra Modi will be far more supportive of Sri Lanka’s position, in the UN Human Rights Council.

Dr. Swamy expressed these views at a seminar held at the BMICH in Colombo on Monday evening. A visiting Bharatiya Janatha Party delegation led by Dr. Subramaniam Swamy, participated in the panel discussion India under Modi: Relevance for the region and the world organised by the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies.

The event saw the participation of several prominent personalities including government and opposition politicians, civil society, commentators, social activists and journalists.

Chairmanof BJP Strategic Action Committee, Dr. Subramaniam Swamy expressed the following views:

“The relevance of this paradigm change of Mr. Modi becoming Prime Minister, will be felt in the SAARC countries in particular and particularly in Sri Lanka. Your foreign minister has been assured that we will never allow human rights to be used as a punitive or as an intrusive weapon. And therefore you will find that Mr. Modi will give first priority to the SAARC countries.  And therefore I think, that in the UN Human Rights Commission, India would be far more supportive of Sri Lanka’s position than ever before.”

Speaking further, Dr. Swamy made the following remarks:

” If you look around the world, no country has had the kind of clear success in eliminating terrorism as you have. Today, even Tamils up in the North, admit that they know when their children go to school, they’ll return back in the night, when their husbands go to work, they’ll return back in the night. There’s more to be done. And it’s for you to do. And if our friendship develops sufficiently we will give you ideas on what could be done and what could not be done, whether you accept it or not. “
