Video: Minister realizes his foolishness
Voting for the 18th amendment presented by President Mahinda Rajapaksa was a serious mistake he made says the Senior Minister and Leader of the Communist Party DEW Gunasekera. He said this at a media conference.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa bought Parliamentarians elected at the general election in 2010 to make a puppet regime with a distorted 2/3rd majority in Parliament. He used this majority to bring in the 18th amendment. This amendment revoked the independent commissions established by the 17th amendment. The two term tenure of the executive presidency too was removed and the way was paved for a despotic regime.
At present the seriousness of this act is being realized by other partners of the UPFA. Not only partners of the UPFA but other independent Parliamentarians have started expressing their views. Many of these views are not favourable to Rajapaksa family rule point out political analysts.
