The lead in today’s (23rd) issue of ‘Dinamina’ states the income of the Southern Expressway is Rs.33000 million. It is reported that this was stated by the Deputy Minister of Ports and Highways Nirmala Kothalawala. This is a total lie.

The statistics Deputy Miniser Nirmala Kothaalwala himself presented to Parliament on 8th July confirms this. The Southern Highway was declaed open on 27th November, 2011and the income it had by 31st December that year was Rs.80685230.00. The income for the year 2012 was Rs. 1019132650.00. In 2013 the income was Rs.1259027169.00. This shows the income of the Southern Expressway from the day it was opened until end of 2013 was 2358845049.00. (Nearly Rs.2360 million.)

However, ‘Dinamina’ reports that Southern Expressway has earned Rs.33000 million. If it is correct the project should have earned Rs.30640 million during the last six months of this year. Anyone could know that ‘Dinamina’ is a part of the government propaganda that fabricates blatant lies.
