Tanks and reservoirs record lowest water capacity levels in 14 years
After 14 years, tanks and reservoirs that come under the purview of the Irrigation Department have recorded their lowest water capacity levels.
According to the Director of the Water Management Division of the Irrigation Department Janaki Megasthanna, the water capacity of 72 tanks and reservoirs that come under the purview of the Irrigation Department have fallen by 18 percent.
The Irrigation Department stated that the residents of a number of districts are currently facing the worst water crisis in 14 years.
The districts of Ampara, Trincomalee, Monaragala and Hambantota are facing the brunt of the effects caused by this crisis.
