Two records broken at the end of Day 1 of the Commonwealth Games
At the end of Day 1 of the Commonwealth Games 2014 underway in Glasgow, England leads the medals chart with six Gold medals.
Four Commonwealth Games records were established while two world records in swimming were broken. Indian Sanjitha Khumukcham won the first gold medal from the weightlifting event July 24 at the Clyde Auditorium in Scotland. She lifted 173 kilogrammes overall to secure the Gold medal.
The Silver medal of the event also went to an Indian while the Bronze was bagged by a Nigerian. Sri Lankan Chamari Warnakulasuriya, who took part in the same event could not finish her attempts.
Host nation Scotland won the Gold Medal for the Women’s 400 metres individual medley event. Hannah Miley Delivered the Gold with a new Commonwealth Games record, recording a time of 4 minutes 31.76 seconds. England won silver while Australia bagged the Bronze.
Australian Swimmer Emma McKeon bagged the Gold medal in the Women’s 200 meters free style — a Commonwealth Games record.
English Swimmer Siobhan O’Connor secured silver, while Australian Bronte Barrat secured Bronze.
