Alleged rape of eleven-year-old: PM responds to Sampanthan
Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne said in Parliament on Friday that the law had been enforced in the case of the abduction and rape of an eleven-year-old girl from Karainagar in Jaffna recently.
He made this statement in response to a question posed by TNA Parliamentary Group Leader, R. Sampanthan.
TNA Parliamentary Group Leader, R. Sampanthan said:
This is the direct result of the militarisation of the North. The matter that concerns us is the way investigation and legal action have been pursued by the police. The other issue is the threat and intimidation, faced by the complainants and their families, in addition to the severe trauma undergone by the complainants. Can the Minister kindly inform this house as to the steps taken in this regard, And is he also able to assure this house… that immediate steps will be taken to apprehend the real culprits, and deal with them according to the law, and also to prevent such despicable events in the future.
