Mahela becomes Sri Lanka’s highest test run scorer
Sri Lanka ended Day 2 of the second test encounter against South Africa on a high after posting a first innings total of 421 runs. The game is being worked off at the SSC Grounds in Colombo.
Sri Lanka resumed their first innings on an overnight score of 305 for 5. Mahela Jayawardena reached the 150 run mark on Friday morning and also became Sri Lanka’s highest test run getter, surpassing Kumar Sangakara.
Debutant Niroshan Dickwella meanwhile recorded his first test half century. Jayawardene was eventually run out for 165 runs.
Sri Lanka went onto amass 405 runs before being bowled out, Niroshan Dikwella chipped in with 72 runs.
Dale Steyn, Vernon Philander and JP Duminy bagged two wickets a piece. South Africa who commenced their first essay got off to a bad start loosing Alviro Peterson for just two runs. Dean Elgar fell soon afterwards for one run as he was undone by Dilruwan Perera.
Faf Du Plessi who looked to consolidate the protease innings was eventually undone for 36 by Suranga Lakmal.At stumps on Day 2 South Africa were 98 for the loss of three wickets.
