Sri Lanka broadcasting corporation is at loss
The Minister of media Keheliya Rambukwella has requested cabinet approval to sell the 71 acre land at Ekala, Ja-ela which is owned by Sri Lanka broadcasting corporation.
The money received by the sale will be used for the renovation, for compensation scheme for the excess staff, development of programs, etc.
As a short term solution, the Minister has proposed to get a loan of Rupees 15 million from the treasury
The 7 channels broadcast from the head office will be reduced to 4 channels.
The Minister has informed the cabinet that though the income of the corporation is Rs. 10 million and 20 lakhs, the expenses per month is Rupees50 million and 20 lakhs.
