IIFA Extravaganza culminates with the Awards ceremony

“3 Idiots” swept this year’s IIFA Awards. The Festival, the grand finale to the three-day extravaganza, was staged at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium last night

The much awaited gala event commenced after the arrival of First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, many Parlaimentarians and guests. Aamir Khan-starrer 3 Idiots swept this year’s IIFA awards bagging 8 honours including the Best Film award, with megastar Amitabh Bachchan winning the Best Actor award for his role as a progeria-afflicted child in Paa. The total number of Awards by the Film was 15.

The Best Actress award was shared jointly by Vidya Balan for Paa and Kareena Kapoor for 3 Idiots.

The Best Director trophy went to Rajkumar Hirani for 3 Idiots, while he along with Abhijat Joshi, Vidhu Vinod Chopra won the Best Story award for the same film.

Sanjay Dutt laughed all the way to bag the award for best performance in a comic role in All the Best.

3 idiots won another award with Boman Irani clinching the statuette for his negative role in the film

“3 Idiots” also bagged the best Director’s Award, Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography Awards.. Sri Lankan actress Jacqueline Fernandez, who made her Bollywood debut with Aladin, was declared Star Plus Debut of the Year (Female).

.Salman Khan was honoured on behalf of his social community operations via the IIFA Festival. The Award was presented by Minister Basil Rajapaksa. The next IIFA Film Awards Ceremony is slated to be held in Canada.
