Afghan President accepts credentials of first Lankan Resident Ambassador
During a formal ceremony, President Hamid Karzai accepted the diplomatic credentials of Mr. Shah Nawaz Marikar Bawa, Sri Lanka’s first resident Ambassador to Afghanistan, on August 16.
In a meeting,followed by the ceremony, President Karzai welcomed the Ambassador of Sri Lanka and said “I am very delighted that today we have the first resident Ambassador of the great country in the region, Sri Lanka, in Kabul to establish/open their embassy.”
“By the establishment of Sri Lanka’s Embassy in Afghanistan, the relationship and cooperation between the two countries specifically in the areas of economics and business will further expand,” added the President.
During the meeting, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka expressed his assurances and said; during his assignment in Afghanistan he would put all his efforts in expanding and strengthening the relationship between the two countries so both nations benefit.
