‘Samurdhi’ deployed to avoid defeat at Uva
The government is preparing to deploy 10,000 ‘Samurdhi’ employees and officers serving under the Ministry of economic development on the pretext of an ‘urgent survey’ for the Uva PC election. They are to be used on the 6th, 7th and 8th of next month in election campaigns.
This has been decided at a discussion headed by Minister Basil Rajapaksa held at the Ministry of Economic development on the 14th. Samurdhi employees serving in all parts of the island are to be called to Badulla and Monargala for the campaign.
All those who are participating in the campaign would be provided with lodging and transport. It is revealed that food would be made available free of charge. According to government sources Samurdhi employees and officers are to be deployed for the election campaign as the attempt to use 884 mobile services in the Uva Province to bring victory to the UPFA had failed.
