SL Navy distributes drinking water to drought affected on a daily basis
Sri Lanka Navy as a community relief measure started a program to provide drinking water to drought affected people in several provinces.
Accordingly, the Navy has been providing drinking water to drought affected civilians in Kayts and Mannar.
Naval personnel attached to SLNS Kanchadeva of the Northern Naval Command on daily basis is providing over 24,000 liters of drinking water to over 4.700 civilians belonging to 1,300 families living in Kayts island through three water bowsers.
Navy personnel attached to SLNS Pussadeva and SLNS Gajaba of the North Central Naval Command is also distributing daily over 26,800 liters of water to the drought affected areas in Mannar District.
The people in the areas of Kalikattaikadu, Sinnapungathalvu, Neelasenai, Sirunavatkulam, Uyirtharasankulam, Parappankandal, Mullipallam, Periyanavatkulam, Nochchikulam, Eluthoor, Souhbar, Thoddaveli and Thalvupadu in the Mannar District benefit through this relief measure.
The Navy has also installed water storage tanks at locations convenient to the public for daily drinking purposes.(KH)
