Scotland wants to remain in UK
Scotland has voted to remain in the United Kingdom after millions of voters took to the polls to decide the future of the United Kingdom.
55.4% of the voters wanted to remain in the UK while 44.7% voted to be independent. 28 out of the 32 council areas voting No, and four voting Yes. Turnout was a huge 84.6%.
First Minister Alex Salmond conceded defeat, but said the 1.6m Scots who voted for independence showed the scale of support for change.
Alistair Darling, leader of the Better Together campaign, celebrated by telling supporters "the silent have spoken".
David Cameron said the result settled the issue for a generation, and confirmed there would be a "new and fair settlement" for both Scotland and England.
