Mahela shines at Zahira Celebrity Football Match

A hat-trick by Mahela Jayawardene helped the Cricket Stars side to a 6-1 victory over the All Stars, in their Celebrity Football Match, played at the Zahira College grounds on 8 October.
The only goal for the All Stars was booted in by Tito Hashimdeen. The event’s distinguished guests, invitees and spectators who thronged the grounds to witness the grand finale were firmly entertained by the day’s proceedings.
The Cricket Stars team was led by Mahela Jayawardene while Fouzul Hameed captained the All Stars team, which held a number of famous national rugby and soccer players such as Subhani Hashimdeen, M. Musthaq, Nizam Jamaldeen, Hisham Abdeen, Shamly Nawaz, Naina Mohamed and several other popular personalities from the business, art and media world.
The Celebrity Football Match was held to coincide with the 10th year of the Zahira Super 16 Soccer 7s. An Inter-class football tournament was staged alongside the Celebrity Match, both of which were powered by Li-Ning and organised by the Zahira PPA.
Pyramid Wilmer Ltd. Director Hashim Omar, Li-Ning Business Head Rohitha Abeykoon, Cool and Cool Asia Ltd. Director/CEO Piumika Ranasingha, Zahira College Principal Trizvil Marikkar, PPA President Nimnaz Rameez and Project Chairman Rinaz Rafaideen graced the occasion. The game was refereed by Muhsheen Ariff.
