Vice Chancellor Academy of Military Sciences of the PLA calls on CDS

A six member delegation of the Academy of Military Sciences (AMS) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) headed by its Vice Chancellor Lt Gen He Lei called on Chief of Defence Staff, General Jagath Jayasuriya Friday  (24).

 

The distinguished delegation which arrived in the Island on 23 October on a three day official visit comprises of Major General Chen Rongdi, Deputy Chief of the Department of Operation Theories and Doctrine Studies and four other senior military officers of the AMS. This is the first ever visit by a delegation from this reputed Chinese military institute to Sri Lanka.

 

In his cordial discussion with the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt Gen He Lei recalled the longstanding historical relations between China and Sri Lanka and reiterated the need to strengthen the existing relations between the Chinese and Sri Lankan armed forces. Having thanked the PLA for its continued assistance to Sri Lankan Armed Forces, General Jayasuriya invited the Vice Chancellor to study the Sri Lankan model of defeating terrorism which is a widely studied counter insurgency /anti terrorism model. He further said that the military cooperation between the Armed Forces of China and Sri Lanka has gathered momentum in recent years and serves both the countries in enhancing professionalism.

 

Following the call on, the delegation was briefed on the Joint Command Concept in Sri Lanka and the role of the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff. The meeting culminated with the exchange of mementoes to mark the visit.(MoD.KH)
