Spill Gates of several reservoirs opened
The Spill Gates of the Castlereigh, Wimalasurendra and Upper Kotmale Reservoirs have been opened. The Castlereigh Reservoir has started overflowing following the heavy rainfall experienced in the Western Slopes of the Central Hills. Even the Wimalasurendra Reservoir is also overflowing. As such the Spill Gates of these Reservoirs have been opened.
Three sluice gates of the Laxapana Reservoir were also opened but our correspondent confirmed that these spill gates have now been closed.
Three sluice gates of the Upper Kotmale Reservoir were also opened, but two of the gates have now been closed. Since the water in the reservoirs have reached the maximum level, the generation of hydropower has reached its peak.
In the meantime the Rakwana River is overflowing due to the heavy rainfall inundating the Pallebedda and Kopiwatte areas. Some houses and buildings are also flooded. Relief is being provided with the mediation of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council.
