Police attempting to cite a driver not wearing a seat belt instead wound up with a fleeing suspect who left two 12-year-old boys behind.
The 40-year-old Rock Hill man was driving a Mercury Sable on India Hook Road Tuesday afternoon when police attempted to stop him for not wearing a seat belt. When they attempted to pull him over, the man sped up and made a wide turn onto Ebinport Road, crossing over the double yellow line, according to a Rock Hill police report.
The vehicle then turned onto Hyatt Street and pulled into a driveway. When police asked for his driver's license, the man ran from the scene, the report states.
The officer saw two other people in the vehicle so he didn't pursue the driver.
The passengers were 12-year-old boys, one being the driver's son who at first denied knowing the man, the report states.
