Professionals Completes Military Training
Professional officers joined the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) under the second phase of the "Api Army" (We are Army) programme were passed out on successful completion of basic military training at the Volunteer Force Training School Diyatalawa recently.
Deputy Commandant of SLAVF Major Gen. Lowrance Wickramasinghe graced ceremony as the Chief Guest. Under the 2nd enlistment 17 Lady Officers were also taken into the system and the entire batch comprised with forty six professionals representing diverse fields of discipline.
Meanwhile, Chief Guest Major General Wickramasinghe addressing the passed out professionals extended his felicitations for their choice to join the Army and also praised for excellent turn out showed. He also emphasized on several areas of concern highlighting the importance of joining the victorious Army with a view to serve the Nation while involving in the nation-building process.
The enlistment of professionals into the SLAVF was initiated under the guidance of the Secretary Defence and Urban Development Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa and with the direct supervision of the Commandant of SLAVF. Having written in the annals of the SL Army, SLAVF with its rich history of more than 118 years, now expanding its capacity moulded with professionals from both public and private sectors under the well-known theme called "Api Army"
Accordingly, professionals those who are sound in the fields of medicine, engineering, accountancy, agriculture, languages, hospitality, event management and technology will be absorbed into the system with the intention of reversing its standard back to the times before 1980s.
A large gathering of senior military officers and family members of the passed out professionals were also present at the ceremony. (MoD)
