Religious co-existence is the need of the hour – PM
Prime Minister D.M.Jayaratne has said that the need of the hour is to build the society through religious co-existence. The Prime Minister said it would be an impetus to minimize social rifts.
The Prime Minister opined that they are considering improving mutual trust and confidence between religious leaders at a time when celebrations marking the 2600th Sambuddha Jayanthiya was nearing. He said they planned to build a Sri Lanka in which everyone including their children could live in free environment, sans fear and suspicion.
The Prime Minister was speaking at a meeting organized at the Sri Lanka Mahabodhi auditorium at Maligakanda in Colombo. The Sri Lanka Mahabodhi Society organized the Hindu Religious Conference. The aim of the parley was to promote co-existence between the Buddhists and the Hindus. The Conference was held under the guidance of President of the Mahabodhi Society, the Ven. Banagala Upatissa thera. Several distinguished clerics, including Swami Dayananda Saraswathi Swamiji, one of the four chief Hindu priests of India attended this meeting.
