Only 19 of the 66 cabinet ministers are involved in the election campaign of Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa say reports. Already 5 cabinet ministers have left the government and are actively engaged in common candidate Maithripala Sirisena’s campaign. Out of the 61 cabinet ministers still remaining with the government 42 have opted to follow a silent policy.
Among those ministers who are following a silent policy are Mervin Silva, A.H.M. Fouzy, DEW Gunasekera, C.B. Rathnayaka, Laxman Seneviratna, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Felix Perera, P. Dayaratna, Sumedha G Jayasena, Tissa Karaliyadda and Salinda Dissanayaka. The latest to join this group are ministers Basil Rajapaksa and Dinesh Gunawardene point out political analysts.
Meanwhile, only 7 out of 38 deputy ministers and two project MPs support Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa. Project Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardene acts a prominent role among those who support Mr. Rajapaksa. Almost all MPs in Mahinda faction follow a very silent policy say reports.
Mr. Maithripala Sirisena had stated that there is an exterior struggle as well as an interior struggle in his election campaign. At present many ministers in Mahinda faction publicly criticize causing damage to Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa’s campaign. Mr. Maithripala Sirisena has gained the advantage of the silent policy followed by other ministers.
