Groundwork for plunder of votes?
The opportunity to vote for members of Civil Defense Force, who are eligible to use postal vote, has been greatly hindered say reports. This is done by allocating, as their polling centers, camps 60 to 100 meters away from their duty areas.
Those members who are eligible for postal vote from Badulla and Monaragala districts have to travel to Kandy to cast their votes. They have to travel long distances spending for their travelling and also sacrificing their daily wages.
Political analysts say the situation has been created so that senior officers could manipulate the voting in a manner that would be advantageous to the government. They also say making members of the Civil Defense Force travel a long distance to vote would discourage them from voting, thus reducing votes against Mahinda being polled.
