Murali retires from test cricket
Muttiah Muralitharan, Sri Lanka’s ace spinner and World Record holder in wicket taking will retire this month from Test cricket.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced today that Murali has decided to retire from Test cricket after the first Test in Galle against India commencing 18th of this month. He will however be playing for the 2011 World Cup.
The 38-year-old champion bowler had discussions with the national selectors and SLC officials. Sri Lanka Cricket said he has had the blessings of President Rajapaksa and the Minister of Sports, C B Ratnayake. Sri Lanka Cricket is to hold a news conference to announce Murali’s retirement.
Muralitharan is the highest wicket-taker in both Test cricket and in One-Day Internationals.
