Information regarding money distributed as bribes for votes revealed
It is being revealed that large amounts of money have been released to District Secretaries during the presidential election to be distributed among voters as bribes. The money was to be distributed on 5th and 6th January on the pretext of distributing drought relief similar to the relief of Rs.2500 distributed during the drought.
The scheme could not be carried out through Grama Sevakas but it is revealed that certain District Secretaries have prepared bogus lists claiming the money was distributed. This is currently being exposed in Monaragala District.
Grama Sevakas were instructed to distribute the money in Uva Province to families other than those who had been given Rs.2500 earlier. Despite accounts had been submitted regarding the money distributed Grama Sevakas have been instructed again to submit lists stating more people have been given money. Grama Sevakas have protested against this fraud of preparing lists for monies that have not been distributed.
A point of view is developing in the society that investigations should be carried out regarding millions used without any consideration for circulars of financial regulations in Mahinda Rajapaksas’s election campaign
