The National Freedom Front launched a fast unto death calling for the abandonment of the panel appointed by the UN to advise Sri Lanka. JNP Leader and Minister Wimal Weerawansa has also joined in the fast.
The Minister stressed that if there was no positive response from the UN hierarchy, they would stage a fast unto death. The hunger strike that was being staged near the UN office in Colombo since Tuesday has now been converted into a fast unto death with Minister Wimal Weerawansa joining them. A large number of people including party activists of the National Freedom Front are participating while a number of artistes and scholars were present on the occasion.
The protesters did not disturb the functioning of the UN office as the officials were allowed to enter and leave the office free of obstructions. The authorities have taken maximum measures to ensure their security.
