AG granted time till August 31 to submit report on KP
The Court of Appeal on Thursday (26) granted a period of six months for the Attorney General’s Department to submit a comprehensive report with respect to the Writ Application filed against Shanmugam Kumaran Tharmalingam alias Kumaran Pathmanathan (KP).
The Attoenry General made a request to the Appeal Court to grant more time to submit a comprehensive report on Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP, a former international leader of the tiger outfit.
This intimation was made to the Court when the writ petition filed by Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath calling for his arrest was taken up for hearing yesterday.
The State Counsel sought at least a period of six months to carry out the investigations as these charges are related to local as well as international crimes. Accordingly the Court fixed the next hearing for 31st August while the State Counsel was ordered to submit a progress report on the investigations on that day.
The Court of Appeal also extended the travel ban on KP until September 1.
