Mahinda will not be given nomination from SLFP
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa would not be given nominations to contest the forthcoming general election says President Maithripala Sirisena who is also the president of the SLFP.
Speaking at a ceremony held at Foundation Institute on the 3rd President Maithripala Sirisena said, “I have to ask whether former president expects to contest the general election expecting to be the prime ministerial candidate with his clothes on. Now matchmakers who attempt to get me and former President on the same stage have begun their manipulations. I ask them to know who Maithripala is.”
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, greedy for power, is making various attempts to make him the prime ministerial candidate and if the attempt fails he wants to split the party to fulfill his wishes.
Currently, a severe split has occurred within the SLFP with the formation of two groups one led by the former President and the other by the present President. Also, another group is carrying out a scheme to develop consensus between former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the incumbent President Maithripala Sirisena. President Maithripala Sirisena’s statement that Mahinda would not be given nomination would be to warn the group that is engaged in a bid to bring Mahinda back to politics.
