Plane skids off runway at LaGuardia in snowstorm
NEW YORK — A Delta plane landing at LaGuardia Airport from Atlanta in a snowstorm skidded off a runway and crashed into a fence, authorities say.
Video appears to show the right wing sheared off.
The airport was shut down until at least 7 p.m., Air News and Services reports.
The Fire Department of New York says emergency responders are still assessing people, but any injuries appear to be minor.
Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Joe Pentangelo says the plane, an MD-80, went off the runway at about 11:10 a.m. Thursday.
Images show the plane resting in the snow with its nose through a chain-link fence.
Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines says the 125 passengers and five crew members evacuated via aircraft slides and have been bused to a terminal.
Pentangelo says the plane is apparently leaking fuel.
