Sri Lanka tourism arrivals in February 2015 have been powered by China with a strong performance of 27,425 visitor arrivals, making it the top arrivals destination.
Cumulative performance is up 85% as against last year in the first two months of 2015, according to Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Chairman Rohantha Athukorala.
“A pleasant surprise was that the Sri Lanka Tourism Pavilion at the key Asian travel and tourism event Guangzhou International Travel Fair (GITF) 2015 yesterday won the ‘Best Country Pavilion’ award, which indicates the focused strategies Sri Lanka is adopting on a strong private-public partnership drive,” stated Athukorala.
“With the increased connectivity via Air China operating in the market and the proposed charter that will also come to play in the near future, this destination has a lot of potential to drive growth but what we are now focusing on is to increase the quality of our traveller, given the global boom of the new young and affluent Chinese travellers wanting to see the world.”
