World praise for Murali
World media reporting on the record achieved by Murali has hailed him for re-inventing the sport.
International media published various reports on Muralitharan who became the first bowler in the history of test cricket to achieve the milestone of 800 wickets.
BBC said that Murali re-invented the art of spinning and succeeded in introducing a new method. BBC said he took the art of off-spin bowling to its pinnacle.
The Al Jazeera Television described Murali as a sportsman who considered the victory of the team rather than the exhibition of his personal skills. It said that he was able to retire from test cricket in great style getting his 800th wicket.
NDTV was of the view that Murali was able to meet the aspirations of the fans who glazed their eyes at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. It also pointed out that he succeeded in quitting test cricket in style achieving a record.
The London Daily Telegraph noted that Murali succeeded in surmounting all challenges and achieving the feat. It said all cricket loving fans appreciated his achievement.
The Wall Street Journal referred to the success achieved by Murali despite untiring efforts made by Indian batsmen to prevent him in doing so.
The French News Agency AFP said Sri Lanka will be facing a daunting task in test cricket sans the spin wizard who moulded a new era in the sport.
