Three youth killed within 90 minutes
Three accidents happened in Welimada, Kekirawa and Achchuveli police divisions yesterday (26), in less than six hours. A total of 15 individuals were injured in these three accidents, while three youth were killed, Police told Ceylon Today Online.
A total of 13 were injured, when a van toppled off the road and collided with a dam nearby in Welimada police division yesterday afternoon. Eight men and five women –who were travelling in the van- have been admitted to Welimada hospital. Later, three women have been transferred to Badulla hospital. Welimada Police is conducting further inquiries into the incident.
Another accident occurred when a trishaw collided with a private bus on Jaffna- Point Pedro road in Achchuveli police division yesterday evening. The trishaw driver and two passengers were rushed to Jaffna hospital. Upon admission, the driver and a passenger were pronounced dead. The deceased were aged 25 and 14 respectively. The private bus driver has been arrested. Achchuveli Police is carrying out further investigations into the accident.
Meanwhile, a trishaw toppled off Anuradhapura- Colombo main road and crashed into a roadside tree last night. The critically injured driver and his passenger were admitted to Kekirawa hospital. The 18-year-old driver succumbed to his injuries while being treated at the hospital. The passenger has been transferred to Anuradhapura hospital for further treatments. Kekirawa Police is conducting further investigations into the accident.
