Maliban Biscuits emerged champions of the first-ever Maliban Mercantile six-a-side softball cricket tournament. The tournament was organised by Maliban Biscuit Manufactories as part of a series of activities planned in line with the company’s 60th anniversary.
Held at the BRC Grounds in Colombo in partnership with the Mercantile Softball Cricket Association, the 32 mercantile teams competed for the A.G. Hinniappuhamy Memorial Trophy, where Maliban Biscuits was able to secure the championship.
Following a series of exciting games, Hemas Manufacturing, CCS Lanka, Maliban Biscuits and SriLankan Airlines qualified for the semi-finals. The tournament finals saw an enthralling game between Maliban Biscuits and SriLankan Airlines who battled for the title.
The top two teams received attractive cash prices, certificates and trophies.
The successfully organised event offered a fun-filled day for all participants, with a plethora of entertainment items, which included DJ music and papare bands, which added colour to the tournament.
As an industry trendsetter and responsible corporate citizen, Maliban strives to inculcate a culture within the industry where all institutions work together towards achieving success. As such, building relationships and providing its employees with an opportunity to interact with peers from other fields are some of the main objectives behind organising this tournament.
Furthermore, Maliban believes that events of this nature will be ideal for mercantile sportsmen to develop their skills and will also help promote the game of cricket.
