Chinese delegation meets Sri Lanka-China Business Council, discusses joint ventures

A six member delegation representing China Pacific Economic Cooperation CEO Forum visited the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce to meet the Committee of The Sri Lanka-China Business Council on Tuesday, 24 March. The delegates were from Beijing, Shenzhen, Fujian, Ningxia and Zhejiang.
The main objective of their visit was to learn about the business environment and potential for setting up joint ventures in Sri Lanka. The delegates are mainly involved in construction, engineering, heavy machinery, agriculture, shipping, printing, leather, automobiles, communication, health care, garments and tea sector.
Sri Lanka-China Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce President Navinda Abeysekera invited the delegates to consider investing in Sri Lanka and assured that the Sri Lanka-China Business Council will assist them to identify potential reliable business partners. Board of Investment of Sri Lanka Executive Director Renuka Weerakone explained the benefits and assistance Board of Investment could extend to Chinese investors to setup their manufacturing facilities in Sri Lanka.
The leader of the delegation Prof. David Shen invited the Sri Lanka-China Business Council to consider attending the ‘Silk Road Expo’ scheduled to be held in May 2015 in order to become more familiar with Xi’an City. The Sri Lanka-China Business Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding for future cooperation with China Pacific Economic Cooperation CEO Forum. The meeting followed up by a networking session with delegates and committee members of the Council.
As stated in the MoU, the China Pacific Economic Cooperation CEO Forum is keen to link their website with that of the SLCHBC, which can be found at www.srilankachinabusiness.cn. This represents a commitment to collaborative development and will also enhance ease of access to information on the various business opportunities between the two countries. Work has now begun on this enterprise, and the SLCHBC will provide further information and updates as they occur.
